Welcome to CIELAP's Waste Diversion Act Wiki
In October 2008 the Ontario government began broad public consultation for its 5-year review of the Waste Diversion Act by releasing the discussion paper Toward a Zero Waste Future and launching a 90-day consultation period that ends on January 15, 2009. More information about the government's review process and how you can provide your official comments can be found on Ontario's Environmental Registry.
CIELAP has set up this wiki to help you learn more about the WDA and its implications and to provide a space for you to share your thoughts with others. Below you'll find links to four short papers to give you background information about the Waste Diversion Act and the importance of the review.
An Introduction to Ontario’s Waste Diversion Act
An Overview of Current WDA Programs And Designated Materials
A Brief History of Waste Diversion in Ontario
Ontario’s Waste Diversion Act: Moving Beyond Recycling
Please provide your thoughts, questions, and recommendations about each of these papers, and the questions they raise, at the bottom of each page.
CIELAP is also preparing a report that will include recommendations for improving the Waste Diversion Act. Please contact us if you are interested in participating in this process or if you have any questions or comments about this wiki.
